PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will explain to its members and grassroots supporters on its decision to forge a partnership with Barisan Nasional (BN) to form the next federal government, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said today.

The Lembah Pantai MP also said PH supporters, who are “pragmatic and practical”, appeared positive with the political development.

“They see there is a need, this effort is better than other alternatives,” he told reporters after attending the meeting with PH and BN lawmakers at Seri Pacific Hotel.

“We can see that there are supporters who can accept this but we will also be giving an explanation to the members at the grassroots level on why we need to take this step,” he added.

Earlier today, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said the coalition was working to form a unity government with BN for the country’s stability.

“We had a discussion with BN. The most important issue is to create a stable government.

“I’m very optimistic that we will be able to form a government that’s more transparent and democratic to safeguard the interest of the people,” the PKR president said.

Fahmi also concurred with his president’s view, saying the main thing at the moment was to solve the people’s problems and create a more stable situation.

“We see today, the Bursa Malaysia was down, (and) the ringgit is plunging.

“We need to do something that can restore the economy and I believe it is headed in that direction,” he said.

PH won 82 seats in Saturday’s election, short of the 112 majority needed to form a government. As such, it is talking with other parties to form a unity government.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 73 seats and is also seeking alliances with other pacts to set up a new government.

PH and Barisan Nasional, which has 30 seats, held talks of working together with a final outcome yet to be officially made known.

PN meanwhile claims it already has the support of 112 lawmakers in the form of statutory declarations. – November 21, 2022.
